About John

John Lemanski is a writer and an avid reader of poetry, short fiction, and novels. You can discover some of what he is working on, and some of his favorites by other authors, below.

Meet John

With a background in literature and a love of the written word, John graduated UC Berkeley with a B.A. in English literature. While poetry has been his preferred genre, he has been focused on short- and long-form fiction of late. His newest novel ‘Shatter’ examines the complexities of human emotions and the indelible imprints of race in America.

Inspiration

John’s reading list needs its own building code, and he enjoys works of all kinds. Some of his favorite authors include Nikki Giovanni, Toni Morrison, Chitra Divakaruni, Rohinton Mistry, Alice Walker, Rita Dove, David Sedaris, Samantha Irby, and more. His own writing aims to resonate with readers by sparking connections and evoking emotions through relatable storytelling and imagery.

Achievements

John was a shy student who hid behind a lot of hair and who had no interest in publication, until he lost his hair and figured out that hiding wasn’t the best way to live. He has just recently begun seeking a larger audience for his writing and has had some short fiction and poetry published in online journals. He continues to write and is actively exploring publishing his first novel, Shatter.
